A Different Home for Five Years

This book was originally written in German. Unexpectedly, I received many requests via various social media channels and personal contacts asking if I could publish an English version, too. My reply was: No. Well, at the end, I did. Some parts about our German school in Tehran are missing in the English version, but I think they are of minor interest for non-German readers. There are still more than 360 pages.

I don't want to make money out of this book, and I want it to be affordable for as many people as possible. That's why I didn't hire a professional to do the translation. Furthermore, this book was not produced by a publishing house either; I created and financed it entirely on my own, of course with some help from my family and from friends.

I only had English lessons at school. I graduated from school in 1983 ... However, I had a wonderful English teacher in Tehran: Wolfgang Burst. Of course, that doesn't mean I could presume to produce a translation that is even remotely error-free. There are many options for automatic translation these days (which I still find suspicious, though...). Readers may forgive me for the fact that some of the wording is perhaps awkward. I hope that you can understand the essentials.

I am extremely grateful to Wolfgang, my former teacher, who turns 85 this year, for eliminating the most glaring errors from the majority of my work. Isn't that a wonderful story: The teacher who taught me English (and many other things) edited my book about our wonderful, adventurous, magical time, some of which we experienced together, 50 years after he taught me as a schoolboy?

So, dear reader, take this amazing story as a compensation for some linguistic shortcomings.
